I was born in Inglewood California and spent the first 13 years of my life living in Hawthorne, California. My Mother was from Ohio and my Dad was a native Californian. I am actually a 5th generation Californian. I played little league baseball in Holly Park. From the time I was a kid, I always enjoyed pretty much any sport. I just enjoyed being outdoors and it really didn’t make any difference which sport I was playing. Our family moved to Torrance where I attended West High School. I played basketball and ran Cross Country my first two years of high school. My Dad was always the outdoorsman and had my brother and I involved in Scouting. We eventually did a lot of backpacking in my teen years. We would spend several weekends a month on the trail and at least 10 days a summer in the High Sierras. When I was 16, I, along with 5 other buddies spent 44 days on the trail in the High Sierras and completed the John Muir Trail. It was truly a memorable experience. I then attended El Camino College and Long Beach State, majoring in Administration of Justice.
From the time I was young, I always dreamed of being a police officer. I was fortunate enough to get hired by the Manhattan Beach Police Department as a Reserve Officer in 1978 and became full time in 1979. It was while I was attending the Police Academy I met my future wife (Virginia) a fellow cadet from the Sheriffs Department. We started dating about 5 months after graduating from the Los Angeles Sheriffs Academy and have been married for 31 years. We have two grown children. I truly enjoyed my 30 year career at the MBPD and was lucky enough to hold many positions and work many various assignments throughout my career. I retired as a Sergeant and am now enjoying the good life. My wife & I enjoy long road trips and the great outdoors. We spend several weeks a year on the road travelling to South Dakota to Pheasant hunt and to Missouri to deer hunt. When I’m not playing softball, you can find me on the golf course or at the archery range. Life is good…………..
