The 1st game today saw the Butcher Construction team with a win over the Jets 16-6. The Jets were led by Steve Kato, Dario Serna (double) and Mike Baker all with 2 hits each. Joe LaMay (double), Louie Campos, Bob Julius, Doug Bagley, Ken King and Doug Freeman each contributing 1 hits each but the Jets were unable to put their hits together to post more runs. In the late game The Kettle took an early 9-2 advantage over the Admiral Risty Whalers, with pitcher Ernie Rounsefell leaving the Risty line-up stymied. As would be expected, the Whalers started to find the gaps, putting together late game rallies to erase that lead and pull ahead just enough to prevail 18-14. Chuck Berez led the Kettlers with five hits, while Steve Kreindle and Hal Hammerschmidt tallied four apiece. Ten Kettle Batters got hits, nine scored at least one run. Subs Audie Freeman and Dave Inouye contributed three hits and two runs to the total. Admiral Risty putting 5 runs scored in the 5th, 6th and 7th innings were led by Tony Luca 4/5 (3 rbi’s), Wayne Galer 4/4 (bb 1 rbi) and Gary Bemis 4/4, Clay Collins, Jim Stevens and sub Steve Kato, all with 3 hits each in the game. Rick Mansker (double 4 rbi’s) and Mike Lorden (double) both with 2 hits for Risty. All Whaler hitters had at least 1 hit and 10 Risty players scored at least 1 run in this game.
