The opening game today had Admiral Risty Whalers playing against the Hangar Inn. The Whalers were in command after 4 full innings of play 13-2 and finished the game in 7 innings 18-3. Leading the Whaler hitters was Tony Luca (4 rbi’s dbl and triple), Wayne Galer (3 rbi’s), Adam Garcia (dbl), Mike Costa (2 dbls), Rich Ecker (triple), Howard Miller and birthday boy Sam Barr (80 yrs) all with 3 hits each in the game. Rick Mansker (dbl) and Wayne Judah (2 rbi’s) added 2 hits each while Rob Staal had a hit and Sac (3 rbi’s). The short handed Hangar Inn team were led by Harold Kinsley with 3 hits, Dwayne Kingsby and Ken Widelitz both with 2 hits each and a hit each by Joe Rassulo, Frank Mazzotta and Ken Sackman.

The 2nd game was won by the Kettle over the Jets 22- 11. Getting off to a slow start, and trailing 4-1 after two innings, the Kettle bats woke up and outscored the Jets by 17-3 over the final 6 frames. Leading the way the for the Kettle was Keith Crafton, going 5 for 5. 4 hits each for Bill Matson, Bill Katz and Carlos Arias. Three hits plus a walk for Chuck Berez. 2 Hits plus two walks for Steve Kreindel. Three hits each for Howard Thompson, Warren Galloway and Jon Chapman. Jon had a double, two triples and seven RBIs. The game was tied at 5 all after 5 innings then the Kettle rattled off 12 runs to the Jets 1 in the remaining innings. The Jets were powered by Dario Serna (dbl and triple) and George Wolfe (dbl) both with 4 hits each. Steve Kato added 3 hits while Paul Siegel, Joe LaMay (dbl), John Rosenthal and Andy Shelby all contributed 2 hits each.
