In the 1st game today, the Admiral Risty Whalers were victorious 26-11 over the Hangar Inn. Being short on manpower the Whalers had to add Jon Chapman and Bryan White as substitutes with 6 players missing as did the Hangar Inn having to add Joe Martelli as a substitute with 5 of their players also missing. The score in the 5th inning was 8-6 Risty but they were able to plate 18 more runs in their remaining 3 innings while Hangar was only able to add 5 more runs. The Whalers led by 4 hits each from Wayne Galer (4 rbi’s), Mike Lorden (3 rbi’s), Rob Staal (5 rbi’s with a cycle), Richard Ecker (2 rbi’s), Howard Miller (2 rbi’s), Wayne Judah (2 rbi’s) and sub Jon Chapman (triple & 4 rbi’s). Tony Luca, David Taylor (2 rbi’s), Sam Barr and Bryan White (dbl) all with 3 hits each. Hangar Inn’s Kelly Kahl and Ken Sackman each with 4 hits, Audie Freeman (dbl), Frank Mazzotta, Hugh John McDonald, Jim Walsh and Ken Widelitz all had 3 hits in the game. Ron Rotstein, Joe Rassulo and sub Joe Martelli all added 2 hits for Hangar Inn.
The 2nd game saw the Jets win 17-11 over the Kettle. The Jets were led by Steve Kato, Joe LaMay (HR, 2b & 3 rbi’s), Mike Baker, Andy Shelby, Paul Siegal (2b) and Doug Freeman all with 3 hits in the game. Bob Julius and Howard Rudich both with 2 hits in the game. Ken King added a double to round out the Jets hitting. Other than turning a 5-11-3 triple play against the Jets, there were not many highlights in the Kettle’s 17-11 loss to the Jets. Chuck Berez was 3 for 4 with a walk and 5 RBIs in the leadoff position. Eric Badener and Steve Kreindel had 3 hits apiece while Ernie Rounsefell had 2 hits plus a walk and Mike Abeles had 2 hits plus two walks
