(Blue Manager) The Blue team started sluggishly with 2 runs in the top of the 1st while the White team busted out with 5. White added another 2 before Blue woke up and added 15 runs in the final 4 frames. White rallied late but came up short. The final was Blue 17, White 13. Outstanding clutch hitting by Joe Rassulo, Jim Berger and John Ricci kept Blue on top while a dazzling catch up the middle by David Inouye poured cold water on White’s rally. Blue remains undefeated at 7-0. (White Manager) The last place Whites gave the unbeaten Blues a good game but came up a little short in the end 17-13. The White team was ahead 7-2 starting the 4th inning when Blue scored 5 and then repeated in the 5th to go ahead 12-8. They added 5 more runs in the top of the 6th and 7th. White answered with 4 in the bottom of the 7th to end the game. Both teams did some really good hitting. And both teams had excellent pitching. The star for White was Ward Brown going 3 for 3 with two singles, an intentional walk and a triple. He also scored twice and had 3 RBIs. In addition Ward threw a strike home to get the runner trying to score from second on a single. Another star for White was sub Robert Kurtz who hit 2 doubles and a triple, scoring 3 runs and knocking in 4 rbi’s. Glenn Honda, Rebecca Singer, Roger Davidheiser all had 3 hits each in 4 plate appearances. Andy Shelby had 3 hits in 3 plate appearances and Jon Chaykowski had 2 hits in 3 plate appearances. White team hit 5 doubles and 2 triples to add to their excellent hitting. Blue made some excellent fielding to save the win. In the bottom of the last inning, the first White batter, Al del Rosario , hit a screaming liner past the Blue Team Rover David Inouye but David dove backhanded to make a fabulous grab, the ball going so fast the force knocked him to the ground as it settled harmlessly in his glove.
(Grey Manager) In Today’s 2nd game it was a close game. Pitching and defense shut down offense. The Grey team lead by sub David Inouye (3/4), Sam Barr (3/3), Mike Jenkins(3/3), sub Wayne Judah (2/4) and Steve Fiske (1/2), Lee Messenger (1/3) Mauro Pendilla (2/3). As sub Ernie Rounsefell’s pitching kept most Green players bats at bay. The outfielders Bill Louie, Mike Jenkins and Sam Barr also made key catches. In the bottom of the 7th bases loaded Steve Fiske 3B and Lee Messenger catcher yelled on what to do with the ball if they get it. Steve said “Lee I’m coming to you at home” and Lee yells back “Touch 3B before you come home with it. Wouldn’t you know it, Steve fielded the ball, touched 3rd base and threw home to Lee to end the game Grey 8 and Green 7. (Green Manager) In a low scoring battle, Charlie Golden pitched through pain (after flagrantly breaching his contractual “no dangerous activities clause” by playing badminton and injuring his shoulder,) holding Grey to one run an inning for the first four innings. Green’s defense faltered and gave up 4 runs in the sixth, allowing Grey to take back the lead after Green put up a 5 spot in the 3rd. Green had the bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th, down one run with one out. On a ground ball to 3rd, Grey turned a nifty double play with a force out at 3rd and then getting the runner from 3rd out at home to end the game. Green’s meager offense was led by Doug Westhoff and Bob Perkins, each 3 for 3. Alan Sperling was 2 for 3. Half the team had only one hit each with three Greenies wearing the collar at the plate.
